Member News: Where are they Now?

Jerry Buckner, Charter Member of PCPHC

Jerry was one of the first to transfer membership from our Sister Club Emerald Coast to the newly formed Panama City Parrot Head club. A very talented artist, Jerry, served as Merchandise chairman for 2 and 1/2 years before giving it up to current chair, Kim Adams. During his time with us Jerry produced about 50 different raffle items using his talents in drawing and painting including one very nice Buffett Cowboy hat which netted the club $80.00 for the charity of the day.  Generous to a fault and a die hard Buffett fan, Jerry won the MOTM logo contest in 2005 and was presented with an award from the club for bringing us notoriety of the good kind with the PHIP nation.

Unfortunately for us, but fortunately for Jerry and Gayla, he went home for a class reunion one year and came back convinced he was in love.  Some months later, he announced that he was moving closer to Gayla and they were going to see how far their relationship would go. They have announced that they will be getting married June 27, 2009. The couple now  live in Nokesville, VA which is near Manassas, which is 30 miles south of Wash, DC. Jerry works  for Trader Joe's Grocery Store in Fairfax, VA where he paints murals, signs and do any other artwork they need. Congratulations and best wishes from your Parrot Head friends here in Panama City, FL.

He is a member of two clubs -WAPHC and RAPHC. Both clubs are pretty far from home and is not yet as involved as in PC. Jerry and Gayla will live on a farm with 2 dogs, 2 cats and 3 horses. Gayla is a 10th grade English teacher and also teaches Creative Writing and sponsors the Drama Club. While they were high school classmates they  never dated and barely knew each other.

One of Jerry's claims to fame, he's one of the few who can say they actually saw Jimmy Buffett at MOTM. He caught Jimmy's surprise appearance in 2004. So take hope folks its due... maybe in 2009!

Panama City Parrot Head Club's first member, Jeff Withhart,  is pictured below on S/V Sol Searcher
at a 2005 PCPHC Raft Up at Shell Island.  At the time Jeff was unemployed due to a back injury.  Holder of a 1600 ton license, Jeff's injury prevented him from returning to duty on commercial vessels.
Facing numerous surgeries and physical therapy however, did not stop Jeff from positive thinking and
actions.  Engaged to Ms. Lauren Lloyd, Bill Lloyd's daughter, the couple married and moved to
Washington, D. C.

After surgery, physical therapy, and completing an associate degree this spring, Jeff Withhart has been accepted into the John Hopkins School of Radiology and will begin classes in this prestigious and tough program to become a certified radiologist.  Way to go Jeff and congratulations from your Parrot Head Phriends in Panama City, Florida!
